Alton L.
Alton is from Tyler, Texas. Alton shared his story with YOUtopian Estates to enlighten others on how imprisonment can affect someone who is trying to better themselves once they are released into society. Alton had a bit of a troubled past which led to his homelessness. He went to prison for 14 years It was a bit of a task trying to get approval to stay somewhere when his past and criminal record followed him wherever he went. Alton was able to stay at a shelter and gain rental history which helped him find somewhere to live.
Alton spoke on his experiences being homeless and stated that “it is hard being homeless. You feel like you are on a time limit because I had like 301 days left of homeless days to use. You feel like the doors of the shelters will close on you if you take too long to get on your feet. I am just blessed that God helped me get on mine.”
Alton walks around with a smile on his face now that he has overcome his situation. He speaks to others of the homeless community and seeks to inspire them to do better. He feels like YOUtopian Estates is “a blessing from God” and felt very blessed to share his story.
