Roger G.
Roger is originally from Fort Worth, Texas. He decided to share his story with YOUtopian Estates to raise awareness about homelessness. Before being apart of the homeless community Roger worked as a mechanic. Shortly thereafter, Roger suffered from strokes causing him to be placed into the hospital. According to Roger, hospital staff did not want him to live in his car so they placed him at a shelter.
Thus far, it has been difficult for him to get a job due to health conditions. He is very passionate about spreading the word that “not every homeless person is lazy. Some of us just cannot work. My bones break easily and my body keeps quitting on me. People who feel like we are worthless or lazy should come spend a weekend being homeless and I bet their minds will change.”
Roger says that he “would like to give back to the homeless community himself and hopes others will give hygiene products [and other resources] to the homeless; society has forgotten about us and it is just not fair.” He believes that YOUtopian Estates can positively impact the community for the better and was very impressed with the mission and goals for the organization.
